The first annual EPPI took place at UFPB on November 1, 2014 and was organized by UFPB’s English Without Borders Program. The event gathered fifty teachers from four municipalities of Paraíba, some of whom had concluded the extension course “Diálogos Interculturais em Língua Inglesa com enfoque comunicativo”, along with other teachers from regular schools (public and private) and language schools.

The goal of the event was to provide a space where English teachers could share their experiences and become more informed about opportunities for professional development, locally and nationally. The event was made possible with the support of SBS, CNA, Proling/UFPB, and CCHLA/UFPB. Professors Mariana Pérez and Ana Carolina Bastos, the ISF intern Marina Costa, and the Letras students Lucas Marinho, Marcelo Alvarado, and Raísa Claro organized the event.

The first EPPI lasted the entire morning and the program included an opening lecture delivered by professor Mariana Pérez about “Oportunidades de Desenvolvimento Profissional para professores de inglês na Paraíba”. In addition, five workshops were offered by teachers from UFPB’s English Without Borders program (Fernando Cabral, Felipe Lima, and Luciana Arruda) and the English Teaching Assistants from CAPES- Fulbright-ISF 2014 (Connor Pierson and Renee Payne).
